12U COACHES

Head Coach Steve Moffat
Steve Moffat, one of the most decorated student-athletes in Cardinal men's ice hockey history and a 25-year coaching veteran, just entered his sixth year as the head men's ice hockey coach at Plattsburgh State.
As a student-athlete, Moffat was one of the most decorated Cardinals in the program's history, earning two All-America honors while playing for Plattsburgh State from 1994-98. The Hatboro, Pa., native recorded 205 points on 106 goals and 99 assists during his four years in a Cardinal uniform, and he currently ranks among the program's all-time leaders in goals (third), points (sixth) and assists (tied for 11th). He led Plattsburgh State to SUNYAC titles during his junior and senior seasons, earning SUNYAC Tournament MVP honors in 1996-97. Moffat was also a three-time All-SUNYAC selection and was named the SUNYAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 1994-95. He was inducted into the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame and was named to the Cardinal All-Decade Team for the 1995-2004 era.
After his college graduation, Moffat played professionally in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) for the Northeast Division champion Columbus Chill in 1998-99. The following season, he helped the Florida Everblades with the ECHL's best record and 2000 Southeast Division crown.

Assistant Coach Mark LeClair
A native of Plattsburgh, Mark began his hockey career with Plattsburgh Youth Hockey. In high school he was recruited to play for Gary Ryan at Saint John's Academy. Mark's SJA Irish team earned 3 NYS Titles and 2 NYS Hockey Hall of Fame awards.
In college, Mark was a member of both the Plymouth State and Potsdam College hockey teams. Mark has been with the PYH Junior Cardinals coaching staff for the past 7+ years. Prior to coaching at PYH he was involved with coaching at the high school level.
Coach Mark's philosophy is "Work hard in practice, have fun doing it and most importantly, be a team player. These relationships you develop now will last a lifetime!"

Head Coach Steve Monahan
Coach Monahan brings a lifelong love of hockey to the bench, shaped by years of playing, watching, and learning the game. With a deep appreciation for the sport’s ability to build character, he is dedicated to helping young athletes develop not only their hockey skills but also the life lessons that come with being part of a team.
Believing that every player deserves the opportunity to succeed, Coach Monahan focuses on creating a positive, encouraging environment where effort, respect, and growth are at the core. Whether it’s teaching the basics or guiding players through more advanced play, his goal remains the same: to give each child the tools they need to succeed—on and off the ice.

Assistant Coach Tyler Janisewski
Coach Janisewski is entering his second season with the Junior Cardinals coed hockey team. He has been coaching youth hockey for over five years, beginning with his son Parker’s early teams and continuing with a strong commitment to developing young athletes both on and off the ice.
Originally from Upstate NY and playing in Canada, Tyler grew up playing hockey and brings a lifelong love of the sport to his coaching. He has helped in creating a positive environment where players can build confidence, improve their skills, and learn the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Outside the rink, Tyler works in law enforcement and carries those same values of discipline, respect, and responsibility into his coaching philosophy. Whether it’s a practice or game day, his goal is to help each player grow not just as an athlete, but as a person.
